Pet Rocks Rock!!!

Following our dinosaur and excavation activities, we examined rocks.  Each child was supposed to bring a small rock to school.  We have used this cute unit for several years now and it always turns out great!

Dinosaur Excavations and Fossils

We read "Mister Bones - Dinosaur Hunter" last week so we decided to do some excavations!  We used chips ahoy cookies and the kiddos had to use toothpicks to try and get the "bones" out of the cookie without breaking them.  They LOVED this! It was super fun watching them do it too.  Most of them took this very seriously and tried their hardest.

I have a student teacher this semester - Mrs. Franklin (Who is WONDERFUL by the way!).  She decided to let our firsties make some dinosaur fossils to go along with our story as well.  These turned out great!

This was such a fun activity and of course - the kiddos are ADORABLE!!

Plants - One of my Favorites!!!

I LOVE springtime in the classroom!!

We have a TON of things going on!  Plants, rocks, dinosaurs, and butterflies just to name a few.  I always give my firsties a choice of which seeds they want to plant.  We put them in a baggie with a wet paper towel and tape them in the window so we can watch the roots come out.  We then took them out, planted them in pots and we now have them outside the classroom lining the wall.  We plan on taking care of them, watching them grow, writing about them in our journals periodically and then they will become their Mother's Day presents.

We also did a whole unit using my Plants Unit.  Click on the pic below to check it out!

Big Announcement!

It's been how many months?
Geez!!!! It was October the last time I posted.  I am totally embarrassed BUT-----
I do have a CRAZY good reason!
Meet the newest member of our family:

Allie Beth Rowland

Yes - it's finally official! It's been a long and crazy 2 years coming but we are now a family of 5!

We now have a 15 year old and 2 eleven year olds.  The youngest 2 are only 8 months apart.  It's definitely been an HUGE adjustment juggling 3 children now but we're getting the hang of it.

I'm hoping to post more about things going on in the classroom soon.  I LOVE springtime in the classroom.  Stay tuned!
