I Have the BEST Principal EVER! and MLK

Today was the 100th day of school.  This is how we started our morning off:

This is one of our 2nd grade teachers and our principal:

They came in like this for our kiddos this morning while we were still gathered in the gym.  They were a HOOT!  The teachers laughed so hard we were all crying!

They took our STOP sign, stopped traffic and walked across the street.  It was HILARIOUS!  I absolutely LOVE that I work with such a wonderful group of teachers!  I truly love my job!

Here are a few pics of our MLK study last week:

We are IN LOVE with this super cute MLK craft.  This is from Gladys - Teaching in High Heels.

I was very proud of my firsties for all the ideas and facts they came up with when we talked about his life.  They rocked this lesson!

Here's a pic of our outside bulletin board.  I was thrilled with how it turned out!  Those penguins are adorable!

Have a great rest of the week!

ar words - fluency and comprehension

Well, the students were out of school yesterday for MLK day and the teachers had a workshop.  Our speaker was Danny Brassell.  He's pretty amazing.  I've seen him before and her definitely didn't disappoint this time either!  I didn't feel very good during the workshop yesterday and ended up going to urgent care yesterday afternoon.  Welp - I have viral bronchitis.  :(  Got some meds and an inhaler and have been home from school today.  I'm hoping to get to go back tomorrow.

I have a student teacher this semester so she's definitely getting  some experience teaching while I'm gone.  I know she's doing a great job!  I sent a voice message to my firsties today for her to play for them.  I told them I missed them and hoped they were being extra special good for her today.  After she played them the message, one of my sweet firsties told her they thought I might be hiding in the closet.  Ha Ha! They always crack me up!

Since I get get out of the house or even do much around here, I've been working on more chunks for my Guided Reading group units.  Here's the latest:

I hope you all are staying well!
Being sick and having to stay home from my job stinks!  I can't stand being away.
Have a great rest of the week!

-ng words - fluency and comprehension

I'm back (as promised) with another fluency and comprehension packet.  This unit is dealing with -ng words, -ang, -ing, -ong, and -ung.  We have really been enjoying using these packets during Guided Reading Groups and in centers each week.

Here are some examples of how we use them in our classroom.  The examples show the long a unit but it works the same as the -ng words will.

Here are some samples of the -ng pages:

Winter Literacy Center Activities and a Student Teacher!

We have been back to school for 3 days now.  I think we're finally back in the swing of things.  My student teacher has been with us for 2 days so far and we LOVE her!  She is the sweetest thing.  I am super excited about having her and I know she'll do an awesome job!

We started a few of our winter literacy center activities today.

Here is our word family snowman:
